THE HEALING POWER OF DREAM PAINTING – PART III

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Once again we invite you to begin or to deepen your experience of Dream Painting, an approach to inner healing created by dream worker Judith Schafman and painter Andrey Tamarchenko.

Dreamwork, a powerful experiential process, excavates deep personal meanings, hidden emotion, sources of creativity and healing energy. As a process, its energy washes through you, reaching all the way to the heart. Then it moves down your arm, into the hand and the paintbrush so that it can reveal its newborn face as your painting on paper or canvas.   Splinters of sorrow, heartache, hidden joy, inner visions expressed in visual language become works of unique power and beauty regardless of your skill level.

In a beautiful venue overlooking the mountains, you will join in with the energy and camaraderie of fellow painters and dreamers. Your work, while explored in community, still remains a deeply personal journey that is facilitated by two expert guides. Here is what happens:

  • Your work becomes a divine dialogue; your heart speaks and canvas faithfully records your experience.
  • Judy and Andrey give hands -on personal coaching – you are asked important questions and given commentary for both the dreamwork and painting process.
  • You are offered dream and artistic experiments designed especially for you
  • You will go home with new ways of looking at yourself and inspired approaches to your dream work and artistic expression.

HISTORY OF DREAM PAINTING

After many years of cooperative research, self- study and sharing skills, Judy and Andrey established a healing and creative exploration called Dream Painting which was first presented in a workshop in Monclair, NJ last spring. Another longer workshop was offered this summer at IRIS retreat site in Accord, NY. In both workshops we explored the colorful sea of the unconscious AND its reflection in the paint-laden canvas. People made many discoveries and great joy/clarity/insight/healing was released in the process! Many people took home and framed their brand new beautiful pieces of art. Plans for offering the workshop, one per each season, are in the works, along with Individual consults and groups in both “Up State” and Montclair available at times yet to be announced.

INCORPORATING DREAM WORK INTO YOUR HEALING PRACTICE

Offered by Dr. Judith Schafman, Clinical Psychologist and Dream Worker

This course focuses on integrating dream work into the ongoing healing process with your clients.  Dream work offers an additional “working channel” in your therapy hour, incorporating the visual world of healing energy and its creative expression and meanings from the deep psyche. Dream work also can help you “cut to the chase” by providing another “way around”  the stuck places that arise in the therapy process.

Clients literally practice “centering” in their own deep material, as they discover their own “personal advisor” via the dream message and take active steps to weave its’ guidance into  daily life. The sense of self is strengthened, and self- respect grows, as the client, over and over, connects with inner dream wisdom.

The course, with an experiential format, offers simple, short tools for working with the strong energies of dreams, while honoring the limits of your one hour session. As your own personal dream practice will inform your work with clients, please bring personal dreams/or favorite images to experiment with.

TIME: Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 2-5 pm

PLACE: IRIS 238-1 Towpath Road, Accord, NY 12404

COST: 50.00

REGISTER: Email judithschafman@yahoo.com with your intention to attend before the course date, and register at www.judithschafman.com   Course size: six people only.

But, don’t hesitate to just drop-in that day if you are able!
More than 170 million prescriptions are written for antidepressant medication every year! Prozac has become a household name. Many people are searching for effective natural alternatives. In this presentation, psychologist and holistic health counselor, Josh Friedman, will share brain-targeted nutrient therapy strategies proven to be the most effective and fastest acting alternatives to medication management of depression and anxiety.
About Dr. Friedman
Dr. Friedman earned his doctorate in Psychology from New York University and received post-doctoral training in Psychoanalysis from the Training and Research Institute for Self Psychology in New York City. He worked as an eating disorders psychotherapist at the esteemed Renfrew Center of New York and was appointed to faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. For more than 10 years he has worked as a psychologist with adults, couples and families.
As his practice has evolved, it became clear to him that something was missing from traditional psychotherapeutic approaches. Curiosity and a chance meeting led him to discover the world of Nutritional Psychology, which teaches that many psychological issues are caused or made worse by underlying biochemical/ nutritional deficiencies. Further exploration led him to the practice of yoga, with its emphasis on breathing, meditation and movement for emotional centering.
To enhance his effectiveness in helping a patient to heal and grow, he became certified as a Holistic Health Counselor at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York and went on to earn a Diploma of Clinical Nutrition from Huntington College of Health Sciences and to become certified as a Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS) practitioner, a cutting edge FDA neurotherapy device that directly improves brain functioning. In pursuit of the most up to date information, Dr. Friedman is currently enrolled in the Certificate Program at the Institute of Functional Medicine, Dentistry and Psychology which teaches tools for assessing the root biochemical causes of mental health disorders.
Dr. Friedman’s  practice now offers integrative psychotherapy services which combine the healing power of insight oriented psychotherapy with LENS neurofeedback and education about lifestyle and nutritional tools that have shown scientific efficacy in improving mental health symptoms.
